Pokemon - Serena: The Day After

Well, Serena finally did it - she made the bold move to act upon her feelings and lay a kiss on her beloved Ash Ketchum, letting him know how she felt, that she'd become a better, more attractive girl for him when they next met, and that he "was her goal" all along. Amourshipping confirmed canon once again and this means that it's an endgame romance for Ash, right? Ash finally found his true love, right?

Except for the fact that Serena planted a quick kiss on him (which might have not even been on the lips since it was left up to the viewers' imaginations) but Ash did not kiss back - he was left looking bewildered over what just happened, as oblivious to Serena's feelings and romantic love in general now as he was at the start. The only thing to get a response from him was Serena giving him thanks, something he can easier understand and reciprocate. Amourshipping remains one-sided and Serena remains in the friend zone. And coupled with the fact that Ash is going to Alola with a new look and attitude, without taking Serena with him, and will likely not think about Serena or even mention her by name (unless she guest stars and is thus right in front of him again), suddenly Serena's not looking so special. She and Ash didn't hook up, they're not in a long distance romantic relationship - aside from one kiss, Serena's in the same boat as all of Ash's potential love interests.

It would seem Serena now realizes this and is mortified, while "love rivals" like Macey, Anabel, and Angie are all killing themselves laughing at her expense! They might not have ever kissed Ash but they've been here before, they know what's up!
